Techno-Club Berghain reopened after Corona lockdown

It starts again: After months of closure due to Corona, the famous Club Berghain has reopened its doors. The party people accepted long queues at the entrance.

Berlin – More than a year and a half after the start of the corona pandemic and the subsequent lockdowns, the nightlife in Berlin has returned.

The most famous club in the German capital, Berghain in the Friedrichshain district, has been celebrating for the first time since March 2020 since Sunday night – the so-called club night should go on until Monday. A joint DJ appearance by Berghain greats Ben Klock and Marcel Dettmann was expected.

Several hundred people stood in the usual long queue on Saturday evening and on Sunday night in front of the entrance to the huge old concrete building, which was a district heating plant in GDR times. As in many pubs, a check was carried out at the entrance to see whether the visitors had been vaccinated or were considered to have recovered. During the summer months, people were only allowed to dance in the open air in the Berghain’s summer garden, while the “Studio Berlin” art exhibition could be seen inside. Other well-known techno clubs have also reopened in Berlin.

Berghain self-ironically drew attention to the 2G Corona rule with a video on its website. With the help of the travesty artist Ades Zabel alias Edith Schröder, the question of how to get into the club, which is also notorious for its strict door policy (“How to get into Berghain”) is clarified. In addition to information about the digital vaccination pass and registration, Edith Schröder, who is dressed entirely in black, receives the tip at the end: “And next time you wear something more colorful.” A common Berghain cliché is that black clothes increase the chance of admission. dpa
