Unpublished tapes are set to be revealed in a new documentary about Princess Diana. For Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, this could mean renewed excitement.

Frankfurt – The British royal family is facing not only the fifth season of the Netflix series “The Crown”, but also new revelations from Princess Diana’s tapes, as reported by the online portal The Daily Beast.

The producers of the 2017 documentary Diana: In Her Own Words are planning a Netflix sequel. The work with the provisional title “Diana” is to be premiered in 2022 on the 25th anniversary of the death of the “Queen of Hearts”.

New Netflix film about Princess Diana: Mysterious tape recordings serve as a template

Documentary filmmaker Tom Jennings is said to have had six more hours of unheard sound recordings, The Daily Beast reports. These were already used by Diana’s biographer, Andrew Morton, in preparation for his infamous book “Diana: Her True Story”, first published in 1992. Diana is said to have recorded a total of seven hours of material for Morton in which she talks about various points. “We called it the seven pillars of Diana’s life,” said Jennings. The release of the film sequel should coincide with the 30th anniversary of the explosive biography, according to Jennings.

In the documentary “Diana: In Her Own Words” the princess spoke about the affair of Charles and Camilla, Charles’ alleged comments about their weight, their sex life and about a suicide attempt. What other secrets Diana will reveal remains to be seen. The new Diana documentary will inevitably spotlight Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who reportedly struck a $ 100 million deal with streaming giant Netflix.

Diana documentary could re-focus on Harry and Meghan

Meghan’s confidante Omid Scobie is also said to have said that Meghan Markle could have been “wrong” when she told Oprah Winfrey in an interview that her son Archie was entitled to the title of prince, but was not made into one and therefore was was not protected by the palace security service.

According to critics, Archie should not be eligible to be a prince based on rules laid down by King George V more than 100 years ago. They also pointed out that being a prince or princess does not automatically mean having personal protection, according to The Daily Beast.

When asked if it was important to her that Archie was a prince, Markle replied in the Oprah interview: “If it meant that he would be safe, then of course.” Ken Wharfe, the former bodyguard of Harry’s mother Princess Diana said on Australian TV show 60 Minutes that Archie would definitely have been protected as part of the royal family, just as he himself protected Prince Harry as a child. Since the replacement of the crown, the royal security service no longer cares about Meghan and Harry, but a private company. (Anna Charlotte Groos)
