The truth is that it is physically impossible. Sea water contains large amounts of salt (sodium chloride) , specifically more than 10 grams per liter if we take the average of all the world's oceans. Common soap molecules are made up of sodium atoms bound to fatty acids . If there are too many sodium atoms in the water, as in the sea, more sodium is prevented in the form of soap molecules, and it does not dissolve. This is known as the "common ion effect ."
Sailors solve this problem by using special soaps that contain potassium instead of sodium, also called soft soaps or sailor's soaps .
