On the occasion of the last Climate Change Summit that was held in Copenhagen a year ago, an image similar to this one went around the world. Its objective was to denounce how, supposedly, global warming forced white bears to cannibalism , due to the reduction of the ice surface from which they use to hunt seals and other animals that swim under it.
However, the Eskimos – and also the zoologists – assure that it is not something new . The reason for this chilling behavior seems to be that polar bears, like other mammals, can kill the young of a rival male to force the female to mate , so the goal is more sexual than nutritional.
