Somniphobia, also called hypnophobia, is nothing more than a disorder in which the sufferer has an irrational fear of falling asleep . This panic, when not true terror, comes from the feeling that while they are asleep something horrible could happen to them that will end their lives, such as the fact that they are going to die in their sleep and, therefore, they would never wake up .
This phobia, which generates a situation of permanent stress , causes, by consciously trying to never fall asleep, a deterioration of the organism as well as an impairment of the individual's mental health.
People who suffer from somniphobia have a series of very specific symptoms : shortness of breath, sweating, shortness of breath, feeling of panic, tremors, drowsiness, palpitations or nausea.
This fear of sleeping can occur at any age and the causes can be very varied. People with apnea, nightmares or night terrors or those who have suffered negative experiences associated with sleep are the most likely to suffer from this sleep disorder.
