Good sleep increases sexual desire

Resting properly each day not only provides us with a large number of benefits for our health, but also increases sexual desire , according to the latest study by the Department of Psychiatry at the Medical School of the University of Michigan (USA) and the Department of Psychological Sciences of the Kent State University of Ohio (USA), which includes the journal The Journal of Sexual Medicine .

For their study, the researchers had the participation of 171 women with a stable relationship who did not take antidepressants or any other drug to fall asleep and with reliable access to the Internet to be able to follow the experiment online. All of them were recruited from American university settings and completed surveys of their usual waking time for 14 consecutive days .

The results revealed that those who had more sleep on a given night experienced a greater sexual desire the next day. Statistically, the average of an additional hour of sleep increased the probability of sexual activity with the partner by 14% .

The hours of sleep also had an echo in genital arousal, as women who had slept longer each day had more facilities with vaginal arousal than those who had slept fewer hours each night.

“The influence of sleep on sexual desire and arousal has received little attention in this field, but these findings indicate that lack of sleep can decrease sexual desire and arousal in women, ” says David Kalmbach, leader of the study.
