The pharmaceutical company NuPathe, from the United States, has announced the launch of a new patch to treat headaches and migraines . The patch, called the Zelrix Patch, is placed on the arm and has a system that gently shocks patients into small doses of the drug Sumatriptan . The patch is for single use and those responsible ensure that its effectiveness is superior to that of oral medications and its duration is longer .
An important aspect of migraines is their duration. The condition can sometimes last a whole day, so giving the drug consistently in small doses can increase the benefits of Sumatriptan. The patch created by the North American laboratory achieves this purpose without the users having to be aware of ingesting any pills.
On the other hand, drugs taken orally have different absorption depending on the patient. In addition to the different degree of absorption, they sometimes cause stomach pain and vomiting. All this would be avoided by using a patch, says the company, which has not yet confirmed the price or the date of departure.
