If you want to take a free ride around the globe from the comfort of your home, now you can thanks to Google Earth , which has just added 1,000 new locations , bringing to its collection a total of 2,500 landscapes from around the world. The new additions to the gallery are not far behind and confirm that there is much more on this planet than the beings that live on it.
It is the largest update of the Google Earth View Collection, and in it we can see volcanic regions, desolate seascapes and some scenes that seem taken from another world. They are spectacular corners of our planet. The images have been optimized to adapt to 4K screens, as confirmed by the American company Google on its own blog. These aerial images show us some of the most beautiful landscapes on the planet captured from space.
Earth View gathers some of the most interesting and engaging images from Google Earth and enhances them, then presents them in the Earth View gallery or via its Chrome extension. The project is a spin-off of Google Earth, a 3D representation of the Earth that uses satellite imagery and aerial photography to present landscapes and scenes from a different point of view than what we normally see. Additionally, Earth View now includes a colormap for finding landscapes through the color palette.
The Earth View gallery was launched a decade ago and its images are used as wallpapers, screensavers, and as part of an interactive exhibit on Google Earth’s Voyager, a sort of online guided tour.
“My hope is that this fun little project, along with Google Earth as a whole, motivates us to care more deeply about this strange but kaleidoscopically beautiful planet,” wrote Google Earth Product Manager Gopal Shah in the publication of the official blog.
“The landscapes that materialize when you open a new tab or unlock your phone mark your day with a global mirror. I hope this fun little project, along with Google Earth as a whole, motivates us to care more deeply about this strange but kaleidoscopically beautiful, “said Shah.
All images are available in the Earth View Gallery, as well as the popular Earth View Chrome Extension .
