We invite you to meet some amazing creatures that inhabit our world, because planet Earth is full of life, and through these photographs you can contemplate a good number of them. From deep ocean niches to the highest mountains, from the agile white shark, to tiny chimpanzees like we’ve never seen before. But let’s not forget something important.
Many people have an excessively romantic view of wild animals; They think that they are like Spartan warriors who do not feel pain or at least do not feel it to the extent that humans and domesticated animals do. Logically this is false. Wild animals suffer just like domesticated animals.
Your nervous system is not very different from ours; in fact, many of these animals are very similar to others that we do tend to worry much more about; for example, wolves and dogs, wild cats and domesticated cats, wild birds against chickens … Savages suffer no less than others. And, although we might think that the continuous threats to their survival make us more sensitive, there is no evidence of this.
Non-human animals living in the wild have to be aware of all possible risks to their survival, which makes their lives often short and deeply stressful. Although not all animals in the wild experience such psychological suffering, living in this environment makes them vulnerable to physical suffering, which alone can be terrible.
In addition to physical pain and stress, nonhuman animals that survive their first few months often die young due to injury, disease, starvation, or … predators.
We often assume that wild animals live a good life simply because they are free, as if freedom automatically implies an excellent life. We have already verified that this is not necessarily true.
All this leads us to the fact that we need to consider the similarities between all types of animals and remember that protecting them should also be part of our actions and desires associated with this, for now, our only home in the universe.
To learn more about the great wealth of wild fauna with which we share this planet, we propose a trip through the most curious species.
