Opel has left bread crumbs for several months. The new Opel Mokka was revealed little by little, image by image and teaser after teaser. The expectation grew and the media were ready to meet the new compact five-door SUV of the firm. The coronavirus has not been able to with him and we have finally met the new member of the family, developed on the CMP platform of the PSA group. Exactly, let’s not forget that Opel has become part of the French conglomerate and, incidentally, to benefit from its advances on the road to electrification. It is, therefore, the same architecture shared by DS 3 Crossback e-Tense, Opel Corsa-e and Peugeot e-2008 .
The new Opel Mokka introduces the design language and, with this new trend, the front Opel Vizor appears, a front in the Opel Manta style (1970) with the very thin and raised grille. Of course, the headlights no longer wear the round design and become two slim daytime modules with LED technology. The rest of the body shows minimalist but strong lines, far removed from the rounded and bulky silhouette of the previous Mokka X. In addition, its dimensions change completely, with a longer wheelbase (5 mm) despite being smaller. A 4.15 meter long Mokka has been designed on the new platform, 125 millimeters shorter by reducing the front and rear overhang.
We know that the CMP platform allows the introduction of diverse propulsion systems, from combustion engines to 100% electric models. Opel has chosen to start the marketing of its new compact SUV with the Mokka-e variant, the zero emissions . This model will use the 100 kW (136 hp) and 260 Nm electric drive already mounted by its rivals (and cousins) from the French group. Its official autonomy is 322 kilometers , without resorting to the most economical driving modes. A fact that makes it the ideal companion for commutes to work, especially due to its zero DGT sticker that will save any restriction on urban traffic. It will arrive at the end of summer and can be purchased at the firm’s dealerships, if everything continues as before, in early 2021 .
