In 1936 a model was launched on the market that would change the history of Opel. The first generation of the Kadett caused a sensation from the start, winning over journalists with its dynamic capabilities and value for money. The German firm hit the nail on the head and focused on improving a general vehicle with low maintenance costs but many options. This model was the forerunner of the current Opel Astra, a compact that is part of a new German batch, created under the umbrella of the French group PSA to which it belongs. The Astra name replaced the Kadett in 1991 , a moment that marked a before and after. This change came after the adoption of that name by Vauxhall (1980), the British manufacturer of German models. A modification that could bring luck given that this model is, today, the best-selling Opel model in its history.
Between the two models, Kadett and Astra, Opel has sold more than 24 million units . Furthermore, if we put together all those registered vehicles, they would exceed 100,000 kilometers in length. That distance is the same as going around the Earth two and a half times around the equator. But beyond the numbers, the Kaddet first and then the Astra, have been cars capable of transmitting the passion for the automobile and technology. There are more than eleven generations and they all share a common element: the democratization of premium systems in a generalist brand. This Opel backbone is still present in 2019 and in the last batch of Opel Astra, presented at the 2019 Frankfurt International Motor Show .
As it cannot be otherwise, the Astra 2019 incorporates slight aesthetic touches to the latest generation and its engineers have worked to create the most efficient model to date . To achieve that milestone, the designers have developed one of the most aerodynamic bodies on the market, with a coefficient of 0.26 Cx. Nor have they forgotten to equip this compact with the latest in technological and digital equipment, among which the new efficient LED headlights stand out.
