The non-celebration of the Geneva Motor Show left many loose ends and models unseen in the physical world. Of course, thanks to digitization and technology, which is making the quarantine more bearable, we have been able to learn about Kia’s new bet for the SUV D segment: the new Kia Sorento . This fourth generation launches a multi-energy platform, for medium-sized SUVs, which modifies its proportions and allows the introduction of electrification, placing the batteries under the floor. Thanks to this evolution, the buyer will be able to choose between the diesel or hybrid versions, later completed with the plug-in hybrid variant .
The new architecture of the Kia Sorento has given it more forceful heights, with 4.81 meters long by 1.90 wide and 1.69 high . Its new silhouette almost completely renounces the overhangs and the A-pillar is somewhat set back from the front axle. In this way, it offers a 35 millimeter longer wheelbase , up to 2.81 meters. The exterior design has clearly evolved into an American style, one of the key markets for the Sorento. What’s more, part of its manufacturing takes place at West Point, a plant now paralyzed by COVID-19.
Its front, more vertical than ever, shows a new interpretation of the famous tiger nose of the firm and the rear shows typical resources to show a forceful image. The firm ensures that the interior of the Sorento is the most premium to date , with top quality materials and a technological and digital endowment at the level of higher segments. Its cabin stands out for offering seven seats and a remarkable trunk capacity in a configuration of five. With the third row lowered, the Sorento’s boot has a capacity of 821 liters , eight liters less in hybrid variants. If you need the two rear seats, its capacity drops to 187 liters.
We have not yet been able to verify its interior habitability, which was already very good in the previous generation and that the firm claims to have improved in this new batch. For now, in times of coronavirus, we will have to settle for meeting him virtually in this gallery.
