The Oklahoma City Museum of Art, one of the city’s premier museums, has a complicated history that began in the early 1900s with the creation of the Oklahoma Art League. Expanding and growing in prominence through the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, the League saw a split in the late 1960s between the “conservative” and “modern” art communities. The “conservative” movement eventually became the OKC Museum of Art, but it wasn’t until 1989 that the movements merged again.
In 2002, the museum moved to its current facility, the Donald W. Reynolds Center for the Visual Arts. With Noble Theater, multiple education rooms, countless exhibits, a cafeteria, and a resource center, the museum is truly an OKC treasure.
