A baby with three penises is born

This is the first child born with this strange deformity. It presents three penises, whose doctors in northern Iraq, near Mosul, believe they are the first to publish a study detailing a case like this, human triphalia, in which the patient has three penises.

Of the three penises, only one of them was functional. The other two appear attached to the shaft of his real penis and the bottom of his scrotum, and have been surgically removed.

According to the researchers, one in five to six million boys is born with more than one penis , with around 100 cases of diphhalia (two penises) recorded worldwide. But the Iraqi boy is the first to have triphalia (three penises), according to the case report published in the International Journal of Surgery Case Reports.

Scientists remain puzzled as to the cause of the appearance of so many additional members, the first case of which was recorded in the seventeenth century.

“To our knowledge, this is the first reported case with three penises or triphallia . There is no similar case in the human literature,” the authors explain in their study.

The condition is associated with other abnormalities, including birth with two scrotums or years. There have been reports of boys being able to urinate and ejaculate from both penises. But in this case, the extra penises of the boy were not functional and, therefore, the surgery was less complicated.
