After delivery, the baby must undergo a series of routine tests and procedures to assess its general condition, including clamping and cutting of the umbilical cord, as well as the Apgar test. These tests are performed by the medical team that assisted in the delivery.
However, in the case of a particular mother, this was not the case, since it has been she herself, as a nurse, who has carried out those first tests after giving birth to her own baby . For example, the incredible photographs that have allowed us to share.
According to the publication on the Instagram account of Alexandria Mooney, the photographer who captured this moment, a day before the delivery while they were talking about what would happen, the mother shared that she wanted to be the one who did the first tests of her baby :
” I’m going to show off this mom for a second … because in over 100 birth stories I’ve captured, I’ve never been able to document anything like this! ” The photographer began explaining.
” This is what this mom does every day at work. She is one of the most amazing nurses I have ever met, and her job (which I am sure she will claim is the best job in the world) is to take care of new, cuddly little babies. after making her debut on Earth. She listens to their hearts, measures the circumference of their heads, weighs them, puts their identifiers on them, prints their little feet … and much more! “
” When we were talking the day before the delivery, she told me that she wanted to do the first tests on her baby herself and I said: THIS IS AMAZING, but also: ‘Would it feel good to you to have to stand next to the radiant crib? postpartum? ” Clearly she had thought all of this much more than my immediate thought of thinking that she would be by the crib as if she were working, because no crib was needed to test her baby … all was brought to her! As she measured it, she commented ‘It feels so strange to do this without gloves!’ “.
” It was a true privilege to be invited to this birthing space and to have the honor of documenting the mother checking on her new baby. The birth is incredible and amazingly empowering, ” concludes the photographer.
Without a doubt, the photographs, in addition to showing a nurse who loves her job and her new baby, remind us of the strength that many women have and make a moment that is usually very clinical, something emotional .
