A woman gave birth alone in a car in the middle of a snowstorm in Madrid

The snowstorm ‘Filomena’ has left us a historical snowfall in the central area of our country, Madrid being one of the most affected areas and where the greatest traffic jams have formed.

But children continue to be born, whether or not there is heavy snowfall and this is what happened to a 34-year-old mother who went into labor on Saturday in the middle of the storm.

The couple had been waiting for an ambulance for hours, but when it did not arrive, they decided to drive to the Carlos III hospital due to proximity.

Yesterday the mother was interviewed for La Sexta, where she said that she was alone in the car at the time of delivery because her husband “had gone to seek help at the Carlos III Hospital” and she had no choice but to give birth in the parking lot without assistance.

Clara came into the world in full snow and weighed 3.2 kilos. “Imagine my husband’s face when he came back and saw the girl in my sweatshirt. He was speechless,” says the mother. He says that what he lived he does not wish “to anyone”, but at the same time he celebrates that “everything went very quickly, without much pain and with great luck.”

As the center does not have a maternity ward, a Samur-Civil Protection unit went there to attend to both the mother and the girl. Both were transferred in a Samur vehicle to the Hospital de la Paz. Fortunately, both are in perfect condition.

Other deliveries in the middle of a snowstorm

In addition, Samur-Civil Protection professionals have assisted three other deliveries in extreme situations in Madrid due to heavy snowfall.

In the first, a 36-year-old woman with ongoing labor symptoms was visited. After an hour in which the health team tried to cause the birth at home, they decided to transfer her to the 12 de Octubre Hospital in the mobile ICU.

On the way, the health team had to stop the ICU on a shoulder and the delivery took place, not without complications. Mother and baby have been transferred thanks to the intervention of the sanitary team in perfect condition.

Hours later, another mobile ICU visited a Quijorna home for another 35-year-old woman who was in labor. They have had time to take her to the Puerta de Hierro Hospital, where the baby was born. It was after 5 in the morning.

Third, Suma 112 attended to another woman in labor, this time in the middle of the road. Returning from a warning, the Fuenlabrada Municipal Police stopped them for a woman who had broken water and was trapped on the M-506 road. After the medical examination, the doctor has verified that the delivery was not imminent and has transferred her to the Fuenlabrada Hospital.
