Alpine doubles its sales in Spain to slipstream of Fernando Alonso

Fernando Alonso continues to be a sporting idol at the highest level in Spain and his pull extends beyond the circuits. One year has passed since the return of the two-time world champion to Alpine and also the renaming of the old Renault team. In the French brand they have been able to take advantage of the promotional influence of their pilot to double their sales in Spain in the year 2021.

Alpine was founded in 1955 by Jean Redélé and acquired in the 1960s by Renault . After three decades reaping success in different competitions, in the 90s it was forgotten, but Renault always had it in a drawer waiting for the moment to take advantage of it again. That resurrection came in 2014, when the French house was looking for a brand to relaunch its competition program and took advantage of the opportunity it already had in its catalog with Alpine ,

After the bizarre departure of Carlos Ghosn , including a flight to Japan , the arrival of Luca de Meo as the new pope of Renault meant a revolution for the brand at all levels, including the jewel in the crown: the Formula 1 team . The yellow Renault cars were tinted a year ago with the Alpine blue at the same time that Fernando Alonso began the third stage of his career in the French team.

2021 has been a year of growth for the team, with great results such as Esteban Ocon’s victory in Hungary , Fernando Alonso’s podium finish in Qatar and fifth place in the Constructors’ World Championship ahead of Alpha Tauri or Aston Martin . At Alpine they value this step forward positively, but they will only be satisfied when they return to fighting for victories consistently.

The Spanish fans, also spurred by the great year of Carlos Sainz , have regained interest in F1 and have also approached Alpine dealers to ask about the A110 , the only street model sold by the brand and whose price does not fall of 60,000 euros. Sales in 2021 rose 136% to 33 units on Spanish soil, the largest increase by country. Leading sales is France , where 1,618 of the 2,659 Alpine vehicles distributed worldwide last year were sold.
