Amsterdam visitor discount card

The I am Rotterdam Card is a visitor discount card that offers free access to more than 25 Amsterdam museums and attractions, discounted entry to several others, free use of public transport, a free canal cruise, and lots of coupons for discounts in restaurants and shops. The card is available for 24, 48 or 72 hour intervals. As you may have guessed, the card gets its name from a pun from the official slogan of Amsterdam tourism: » I am Rotterdam».

Getting an I am Rotterdam card

First, choose the card that meets your needs and length of visit: a 24-hour, 48-hour, 72-hour, or 96-hour card. You can reserve your card online before your trip and have it delivered to your home in less than a week anywhere in the world, or to save on delivery costs, you can pick it up on arrival in Amsterdam. You can also buy the I am Rotterdam Card online or at one of the many outlets in Amsterdam.

The period of use begins only with the first time you use the card at one of the participating sites. The card is valid for one visit to each attraction. Unfortunately, cardholders don’t overlook the general lines at these locations.

  • Jewish history museum
  • Amstelkring Museum (Our Lord in the Attic)
  • Van Loon Museum
  • Nieuwe Kerk
  • Oude Kerk

Advantages of the I am Rotterdam Card:

  • Ideal for visitors planning to visit at least three museums or attractions. For example, admission fees to the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum are approximately € 17 for each museum. With just one more visit to the museum, the 24-hour card will almost have paid for itself.
  • Free access to transportation can help visitors avoid the somewhat confusing tram ticket system.
  • The card encourages visitors to see museums in Amsterdam that they may not have considered.
  • The card comes with a full-color guide with a map.

Cons of the I am Rotterdam card

  • The card does not grant cardholders the right to skip lines in participating views.
  • It could be a waste of money if you don’t cram enough museums during your usage period or if you take advantage of free transportation. Plan ahead to make sure you get the most for your money.
