Sony Pictures released yesterday the new and long-awaited trailer for the sequel to Marvel’s most famous symbiote, Venom: There will be Carnage. Among all the surprising detail of the advance, including the villain of the film, were the classic references to the universe of La casa de las Ideas. Specifically, the hero that is most related to the history of Tom Hardy’s character is Spiderman and New York City. Both the spider and the symbiote have been enemies and allies in the cartoons and we already saw them together in the third part of the Sam Raimi trilogy. But the assignment by Sony so that Marvel could exploit the character in its UCM leaves little chance of seeing them together on the big screen. Even with all this context, director Andy Serkis has wanted to pronounce on all the nods to the universe of the wall-crawler that are seen in the recent trailer in a video for IGN. To begin, Serkis has wanted to refer to the moment in which the detective Mulligan is reading a story about Cletus Kasady in the Daily Bugle newspaper, where Peter Parker works. “It is the policeman who is really trying to investigate Cletus Kasady, waiting for news of Eddie Brock when he is going to interview him” said Andy Serkis and clarified everything related to the world of Spiderman: “Obviously there are links between Venom and Spiderman in the universe of Marvel, but we are treating this as if it were his own world “also the director mentioned the null personal relationship of both in this universe,” there are winks and small moments like this newspaper The Daily Bugle (…) but he does not realize, they are unaware at that time of other characters like Spiderman. In the trailer you can see other direct references to Peter Parker’s alter ego when, for example, Cletus Kasady kills a spider that was walking across his table. Carnage has always been a fierce and recurring villain for Spiderman and in this story, far from being able to show the character, the director has wanted to reflect that wink with an obvious metaphor. Venom: There will be slaughter will be released in Spanish theaters in September 2021.
