Anne Will (ARD): Annalena Baerbock does not fall into the trap

At Anne Will on ARD, everything revolves around the Corona emergency brake on Sunday evening. Above all, the question of freedom is discussed extensively.

Berlin – Anne Will wanted to use the opportunity of her talk show on ARD to take a close look at the new comet in the media sky. She had invited Annalena Baerbock, the Greens ‘newly elected candidate for Chancellor, and in the first third of the show tried to get to the bottom of the Greens’ boss.

She did this with sometimes almost aggressive interruptions from the fast-speaking politician, who, however, did not allow herself to be deterred, even if the moderator warmed up questions that had been discussed up and down in the past few days. “Is your lack of government experience your open flank?”

But Baerbock proved himself on the quive and confident enough to ignore the doubts expressed about her by the competition. She confidently admitted that she had assertiveness and a “clear compass”. Nor did she fall into the trap of accepting the stereotype of the “prohibition party”. Instead, she understood how to make it clear that with a head of government Baerbock a different style of politics, a different understanding of political leadership, could move into the Chancellery.

Democracy researcher at Anne Will (ARD): Lately seen “too little opposition”

Anne Wills’ sub-complex question, why she abstained from voting on the Infection Protection Act, parried the Greens on ARD with tutoring on democracy: Because the law in the form introduced by Groko did not seem correct to her, but the goal seemed important enough , she abstained. In it she found support from democracy researcher Wolfgang Merkel. Nevertheless, he complained that he had recently seen “too little opposition” in the Bundestag. Probably true, because the Nazi friends around Gauland and Weidel hardly deserve this designation, and the FDP and the Greens, as parties striving for reason, were always in the dilemma of partly welcoming and partly criticizing the government’s measures.

This was also made clear in the contributions of the former FDP Justice Minister Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger, who once again complained about the “massive restriction of freedoms”. According to her, there are 40 constitutional complaints in Karlsruhe. For example, those who have already been vaccinated should not be deprived of their freedoms, which Merkel confirmed: If the reason for the restrictions were removed, these rights would have to be returned. However, people who have been vaccinated must also be tested, Viola Priesemann pointed out. She is a research group leader at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization in Göttingen.

Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger at Anne Will (ARD): People want the corona tests, but are reluctant to pay

The guests agreed that there was a problem with the corona tests. Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger learned: “People want the tests.” The people, yes, but the bosses obviously don’t want to pay them that much. Gabriel Felbermayr, President of the Institute for World Economy, saw incentives for companies as a way to do more tests and found the establishment of a structure for free tests “desirable”.

The world of work in general: Priesemann formulated very diplomatically that in the debate about curfews that has now flared up, jobs will be “excluded”. At the same time, however, she made it clear that this was a problem because there is an interaction between work and family when it comes to infections. It lacks a uniform goal and the better implementation of scientific findings. But she also made it clear how difficult this is at times, with data from statistics on mortality. But politics needs a balance, argued Merkel, to a certain extent a bridge between the knowledge of research and the rights of citizenship: “We are not a one-point democracy.”

After the talk show ended, however, there was a report on the catastrophic corona situation in India in the daily topics. That put the German discussion about night curfews back into perspective. (Daland Sailor)
