Almost thirty years after the first “8 Series” was born, BMW is once again committed to positioning a sports car that is born in the highest brand echelons. As happened in the late eighties, BMW seeks the alternative to customers who identify with the 7 Series but with a sporting spirit. This commitment demonstrates without a doubt that a brand that, remember, has been a pioneer in introducing a plug-in hybrid premium sports car, “the BMW 8i Series”, continues to bet on sportiness and combustion.
As I mention in other articles, I have no doubt that the automotive industry will be recognized in the future as one of the main creators of the new concept of luxury. The Series 8 of the Bavarian brand is a clear example of this. The design language, materials and technology that this car has teach the letters of the German manufacturer for the coming years. In addition, and almost in common to a greater or lesser extent with all the great sports cars of recent years, it has what for me and once driven is a great value: being able to use it on a daily basis. This car, in addition to maintaining very reasonable consumption and a comfortable and safe driving, allows, with the simple gesture of placing it in the most extreme driving mode, to feel like the sheepskin disappears. When the engines combined with the intelligent xDrive traction system positioned in the avant-garde BMW EfficientLightweight design act, the sensations are extraordinarily sporty.
In addition to that legendary 850 that during a decade sold more than thirty thousand units, the current model already has its history. Through a camouflaged BMW M8 GTE that has participated in endurance tests of the FIA WEC and IMSA Weather Tech SportsCar championships held in North America. If you add comfort, safety and luxury to this experience, I think that even those who are not very imaginative can easily predict the result.
