On April 26th comes one of the AAA video games most anticipated by gamers: Sony launches Days Gone . In this apocalyptic adventure in the midst of a global epidemic, you will travel on the back of your motorcycle in the leathery skin of a bounty hunter, Deacon St. John , to survive in a territory infested with zombies. Will you have the necessary skill and courage?
On your journey through these lands, ravaged by wild creatures known as monsters, you will have your motorcycle as your faithful companion. You will have to take care of it, look for equipment and gasoline, trade … or use, let’s say, more violent methods. Stay ahead. Any decision counts, any moment could be your last!
To prepare us for the launch, in Muy Gamer we have spoken with Claudio Serrano. Does his voice sound familiar to you? He has dubbed Christian Bale’s Batman, Ben Affleck and Otto from The Simpsons in Spanish , to name a few of the works of his prolific career.
It is not his first time in video games. If you are a fan of the Assassin’s Creed saga, you will remember him as the voice of the mythical character Altaïr.
If in Days Gone you expect a flat character (because the survival adventure itself already has enough ‘chicha’) you are wrong. “Deacon is not typical. So many things happen to him that people are going to discover a more complex guy than he may seem a priori. You empathize with him quickly because he has many skills, such as strength and aim, but also intelligence and an emotional part that will hook a very wide profile of players ”, is the first thing that Claudio reveals to us.
The images in the trailer make us think that the wandering motorcycle will play a fundamental role in the game. We are not wrong. “The motorcycle is an indissoluble part of Deacon; You can’t understand Deacon without the bike. It is made in his image, it is so fundamental to everything that happens in the game that it does not make sense without the bike. He is almost one more character ”, says Claudio. So you already know. Take care of her, or you’ll have to walk into a world where everyone wants you dead!
Since we know that it is an open ending, we also assume that the endings will be multiple. Surely there are many ways to ‘mess it up’, but also as many ways to emerge unscathed from the spawn and start your new life in the desert of the Pacific Northwest.
As for the endings, Claudio reveals a detail that has a lot to do with the way of working in video game dubbing: “I’ve never known if something is an ending or not, it’s not clear. As we work as material arrives, as I develop, I don’t even know what the possible endings are.
Claudio surely does not want to reveal more than necessary … But he prefers to wait for us to play it ourselves. Is Claudio Serrano a player?
“I’m not a gamer because I don’t have time; although I would love it ”, he reveals. “I have a console and a PC but I don’t have time to play games, although I would love to see the final result of our work. See why the character says it… what is his mental and emotional journey ”.
However, he does not stop recognizing, slightly excited: “It is an industry that has me trapped because I love it and because I have lived it from a very young age.
We imagine that the life of a voice actor is complicated. For this reason, and taking into account his background (Batman, Altaïr …) we wanted to ask him about what dubbing work is like in video games.
“Doubling for video games is more difficult. In fiction and animation we look for a look, a mouth that moves … But in video games 95% of the time it is the wave of pro tolos . So, you have to do a great job of abstraction and pay close attention to the original audio as the only and great reference during the game ”.
You can already sense the magnificent work that Sam Witwer has done. To dub video games, it is essential to be as faithful as possible to the original dubbing. And since Claudio already has experience dubbing video games, we wanted to ask him about the differences he found between Altaïr’s characters and Deacon himself.
“Altaïr has been for more than 11 years; his video game broke the mold in everything that was being done in the industry. Deacon and Altaïr have things in common : they are noble uncles, they are faced with more things than they think… But they live in very different worlds; in Deacon’s, the rules are unclear.
“Deacon has very difficult moments and goes through many emotional states ; while Altaïr is more serious and content ”, he concludes.
Claudio Serrano has left us wanting more, and we were bitten by the curiosity bug when we saw him bending part of the game’s trailer in the studio. “I want to see it already captured; what I have seen so far is… impressive ”, he tells us.
We too can’t wait! On April 26, Days Gone will be available for your PS4.
