Lions, tigers, giraffes, bears, rhinos, horses, and even owls can be blinded by falls . German scientists have just found the remedy: comfortable contact lenses adapted to the eyes of each species.
Cataracts in animals tend to quickly lead to blindness , which considerably reduces their quality of life. So S&V Technologies , a company founded by chemist Christine Kreiner, decided to develop new acrylic contact lenses in different sizes. The company has already tested its invention on a sea lion from Sea World in San Diego (USA), a blind kangaroo from an Australian wildlife park, and a feline from a zoo in Romania. In addition, the lenses have restored vision to dozens of domestic animals, racehorses, circus animals, guide dogs for the blind and wild animals that live in nature reserves. Even the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) association has acquired a pair of glasses for brown bears from China in danger of extinction that, due to their vision difficulties, did not mate, which compromised the continuity of the species. Of course, from S&V Technologies they warn that its placement is delicate, and requires specialized training from veterinarians.
