Corona pilot project: open Berlin clubs

The tickets were sold out immediately: the club scene in Berlin is set to resurrect this weekend. With a fixed Corona program. After a year and a half, the hopes are high.

Berlin – A pilot project with 2000 PCR-tested partygoers is intended to show the internationally celebrated Berlin club scene new perspectives after 18 months in the Corona-Aus.

“The next few days will be very decisive for the club scene,” said Lutz Leichsenring from the Berlin Club Commission on Friday before the start of the three-day “Reboot Clubculture” test.

Six very different clubs such as Metropol, Kitkat, SO36 or Festsaal Kreuzberg offer events with around 40 artists from the scene on the two nights between Friday and Sunday. The 25 euro tickets were sold out in a few minutes.

All clubbers have to take a PCR test a few hours before entry in three specially set up test centers. Admission to the clubs is only possible with a negative result. It should not be differentiated whether people have already been vaccinated.

Part of the project is a second test one week after the event. In order to reach as many participants as possible, tickets were mainly offered via the Berlin distribution lists. In addition, ten euros of the ticket price are returned.

For the second tests, Florian Kainzinger from Think.Health Hygiene Solutions hopes for a participation of 70 to 80 percent in order to be able to draw conclusions for further steps. The prerequisite is the more complex PCR tests – projects with simple tests have not been very successful.

“We hope that it is not the future,” said Pamela Schobeß from the club committee with a view to the complex procedure. “But it would be a possibility for autumn.” With the temperatures cooling down, the clubs would then hardly be able to offer outdoor events as they do now. According to the Berlin Senate, the project aims to show whether and how dance events in clubs “can be safely possible in the future even under pandemic conditions”.

The Berlin clubs had to close a year and a half ago to contain the spread of the corona virus. With #UnitedWeStream, they have long broadcast music from empty dance floors into many living rooms. In the meantime, it is allowed to dance again on the outside – in compliance with hygiene regulations. Dance events have not yet been allowed inside. dpa
