Curiosities about Pac-Man, a video game icon

Pac-Man is a video game developed by the Japanese company Namco and first released in 1980. The arcade has become an icon in the history of video games, and is a symbol of the generations that were born and raised in the last two decades of the 20th century.

The operation of Pac-Man is very simple: the player must guide our protagonist, with the appearance of a yellow ball with a mouth, through a labyrinth while devouring little dots, called Pac-Dots. But the game is not so simple: the difficulty lies in dodging some annoying ghost-like creatures until they devour all of the Pac-Dots and go to the next level.

But, in addition, there are some tools that can help us overcome the different levels: on the one hand, the Power Pellets , which are flashing points a little larger than the Pac-Dots that have the function of transforming ghosts into vulnerable by a limited time ; they move more slowly and in the opposite direction. At that moment, our enemies turn dark blue, and we can take the opportunity to go towards them and eat them. But beware! When the time is up, they will regain their usual shape and direction, and touching them means losing a life.

In addition, there are fruits distributed throughout the maze that work as bonus points . These can also appear for a limited time, and obtaining them all would allow us to reach the maximum score.

Today, the complexity that the world of videogames has acquired thanks to the design and technology used has resulted in true works of art, with astonishing depth. But decades ago, at the dawn of the industry, simplicity was the guarantee of Pac-Man’s success, conquering all kinds of audiences: very soon it gained enormous popularity, especially in the United States, where it became extremely famous; therefore, versions of the game continued to be broadcast for decades.

Pac-Man is considered one of the most influential video games in history, and it pioneered the introduction of the chase genre, which made it a tremendously addictive game, in the best sense of the word.
