The family of woodpeckers ( picidae ) includes 218 different species of birds that are known as woodpecker, beak, woodpecker, woodpecker, great spotted woodpecker or wryneck among other names. In addition, they are found throughout the world except Madagascar, Australia, and the Pole Zone. At the same time, in southern Europe (specifically in Doñana, Andalusia) there are three different subspecies of woodpeckers.
These magnificent birds stand out for the striking color of their feathers, which ranges from orange to bright green or purple. There are also woodpeckers with shades of pink, yellow and red. Also, its size may be different depending on the species. Some are only eight inches long, while others can reach two feet.
On the other hand, these birds are capable of chipping a tree more than twenty times in a second. In fact, some researchers consider that they are capable of chopping a tree up to 12,000 times. This is because woodpeckers have a bone in the back of their beak and also in front of their brain that allows them to nibble quickly without injuring themselves.
