The Danish monarch is very impressed by the executive chancellor. This is intelligent and has a heart, said the 81-year-old in front of journalists.
Berlin – Denmark’s Queen Margrethe complimented Angela Merkel. The 81-year-old met with the executive chancellor during her state visit this week.
On Friday morning, the Queen answered questions from journalists in Berlin. When asked what she thought of Merkel, Margrethe replied that she had met her several times over the years. “She is an extremely capable woman,” said Margrethe. Merkel is intelligent and has a heart: “And I also admire her for the background that she has.”
Are there enough women in politics? “Since I’m not in politics and have to stay out of politics, I have no opinion,” said Margrethe in English and laughed.

Margrethe also spoke a little German. “The Crown Prince and I were very happy to be in Berlin,” she said at the beginning and shortly afterwards apologized for the fact that her German was “terrible”, especially in the early morning. She later said in Danish that if someone could remember their German lessons at school, they knew that German was a really difficult language.
When asked about her dress style, she said she has likely developed a style over the years and is color conscious. Of course her style has changed. “Someone at 34 – I was that old on my first state visit here – doesn’t dress like an old lady at 81. Hopefully.”
The Queen was supposed to travel from Berlin to Munich on Friday. A state banquet planned there was canceled due to the corona situation. What is your message in the current infection situation? You have to find a balance – be aware of the danger, but not overreact. “Because when people get annoyed, they stop being sensible,” said the Queen. dpa
