Diane Kruger wasn’t supposed to be on Inglorious Basterds. Director Quentin Tarantino only let them audition when there were no more interested parties.
Los Angeles – Hollywood star Diane Kruger initially had a difficult time with director Quentin Tarantino.
“He let everyone audition,” said the 45-year-old about the casting for the film “Inglorious Basterds”. “He didn’t want to audition me because he saw me in a movie that he didn’t like. He didn’t believe in me from the start, ”said Kruger on the Reign with Josh Smith podcast. “In fact, the only reason he let me audition was that at some point there was no one left who wanted to.”
She was able to convince the director
For the casting, she then had to fly from New York to Germany at her own expense to meet Tarantino there. “I had to jump through all of those hoops,” said Kruger. But she wanted to do it to prove what she can do. “And luckily everything worked.” She thinks the experience was a lesson for Tarantino as well: “Sometimes you put people in boxes, that happens to me too. And then they’re not what you thought they were. “
In the film, Kruger played the German actress and spy Bridget von Hammersmark. “Inglorious Basterds” was nominated for eight Academy Awards in 2010. dpa
