Edmond's Arcadia Lake

Arcadia Lake is one of the best places in central Oklahoma for outdoor recreation. Unlike subway lakes like Hefner, Overholser, and Draper, Arcadia allows swimming. And it is an extremely popular place for camping, picnicking, fishing, skiing, and hiking.

Arcadia, a lake of the US Army Corps of Engineers, opened in 1987. It serves as a water supply for Edmond and as a flood control for the Deep Fork River basin.

Statistics:

Arcadia Lake covers an area of ​​1,820 acres, with 26 miles of shoreline. The lake’s average depth is about 17 feet, according to the Oklahoma Water Resources Board, and is 49 feet at its deepest point.

Location:

Arcadia Lake is located east of Edmond, Oklahoma, along Route 66 (2nd Street in Edmond). It is located approximately 1.5 miles southwest of Arcadia, Oklahoma, and runs south to I-44 (Turner Turnpike). The main entry points / campgrounds are on 2nd Street and 15th Street, east of I-35.

Recreational activities:

Canoeing – Launching from one of Lake Arcadia’s several boat ramps There is a defined jet ski area, but many don’t always obey that rule. Life jackets are required for anyone under the age of 13. From April 1 to November 30, a boating permit is $ 7 ($ 6 weekdays). The price is $ 6 every day from December 1 to February 28 and 29. There are discounts for military and seniors. Note that boaters must also purchase a vehicle access pass. If you plan to go multiple times throughout the year, apply for an annual pass as it will save you money.

Fishing – Popular year-round in Arcadia, thanks to a heated fishing pier. According to lake officials, there are a large number of largemouth and striped bass, catfish, crappie and bluegill. Trotlines and jugs are not allowed. The lake entry fees for fishing are the same as the sailing fees mentioned above.

Camping – There are over 140 campsites with a variety of camper amenities, including a campfire, picnic table, and charcoal grill. The ‘primitive’ sites do not include any water or electricity service, while other camps have community hookups and water. “Full hookup” sites include electrical, water, and sewer hookups. There are limits of two sleeping units, two vehicles, and ten people per site. Campsites are booked on a first-come, first-served basis. Picnic – A unique feature of Arcadia Lake is the presence of large pavilions. Equipped with grills, tables, electricity and lights, they are perfect for small or large groups. Call (405) 216-7470 for information on reservations and prices of the pavilion.

Trails – Hike, hike, or bike on Arcadia’s 13 miles of scenic multipurpose trails. Hiking and biking are $ 2 on weekdays and $ 3 on weekends during the off-season. Horseback riding is $ 4. Don’t stray too far off the trails, though, or you’ll have to worry about ticks and other creepy crawlers.

Swimming : The swimming beaches are open from sunrise to sunset. The water is very shallow in the swimming areas so it works well for kids who love to build sand castles and cool off.
