FC Barcelona: The Eurocopa lends a hand to the club, 2.6 million for its coffers

These are moments of extreme need at Barcelona and any help, no matter how small, is welcome. The culé club will receive 2.6 million from UEFA in the coming weeks. The reason is simple: the participation of its players in this Euro 2020 has a prize. Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, Eric García and Pedri for Spain; Martin Braithwaite for Denmark; Antoine Griezmann , Ousmane Dembélé and Clément Lenglet with France; and Frenkie de Jong and Memphis Depay for the Netherlands. All leave a pinch in the coffers culés.

The agreement reached between the European Club Association , the ECA , and UEFA contemplated financial contributions for each club footballer who represented their country at Euro 2020. From 14 days before the tournament began, more or less when the the concentrations of the selections began, a particular counter began that would report benefits to all the clubs that had players under contract in their ranks in the continental tournament.

ECA and UEFA stipulated that each club would enter 9,000 euros per day for each player while they were concentrated and participating with their country, so the further they went, the more economic contribution would come. There is an important nuance regarding those 9,000 euros per day and that is that for this to be so, the players must have belonged to said club since July 2019, two seasons. And the less time they take, the lower the amount to be received by the clubs.

In this case, for the interests of Barça , each player leaves a different contribution. For example, for Braithwaite the club will receive 7,500 daily from two weeks before the start of the European Championship until the semifinals that Denmark reached because the footballer arrived a year and a half ago. Pedri being only one year old is quantified at 6,000 euros a day and in the case of Memphis Depay and Eric García , the last to arrive, only 3,000 euros . Therefore, due to the participation of Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, Antoine Griezmann, Ousmane Dembélé, Clément Lenglet and Frenkie de Jong, the club does receive the 9,000 euros per day.

Adding up all the concepts, Barça will receive those 2.6 million euros that will come so well to the club’s coffers at this time, in which any sale or benefit generates a boost for the club’s battered salary limit and that, in the mouth Javier Tebas, could prevent Barça from registering Leo Messi until the last stages of the transfer market, with the Santander League already started.

Dembélé’s injury

This figure of 2.6 million could grow even more if Barça carries out its timely claim before UEFA for the injury of Ousmane Dembélé . The Frenchman suffered a hamstring injury in his right knee that will take him out for about four months, he misses the preseason and the start of the 21/22 season – as well as a more than possible sale abroad, as they wanted from the club-.

The agreement between the ECA and UEFA provides that clubs can claim up to 20,584 euros per day for as long as the player remains injured, that is, the four months of Dembélé’s injury. This is the maximum amount contemplated in said agreement, although according to what indicators it could vary. In any case, if this is the case, Barça could receive an additional 2.5 million euros for the Frenchman’s injury as long as the forecasts made by the club are met, and may vary downward or upward. In total, it would be about 5.1 million euros that the Catalans would receive.
