Celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2016, Frameline, the San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival is not only the longest running event, it is among the most successful in the world, attracting some 75,000 participants during its 10-day run each. year in late June, around the same time as the San Francisco Gay Pride Festival. The festival was established in San Francisco in 1977 as a true grassroots event, but quickly became a major annual event, changing its official name to Frameline in 2004. More than 250 films are shown during this 10-day film event, featuring many of the key screenings taking place at the famous Castro Theater, an icon of the city’s gay community.
