Free Movies in the Reno / Tahoe Area

Reno’s free movies are a big draw for families on tight budgets. These free movie spots of 2014 provide family entertainment without putting a curl in your wallet, and present you with more ways to stretch the dollars you can have for fun activities. All movies are not necessarily suitable for everyone, be sure to check what’s on the screen before appearing in the movie.

Artown Movies in the Park

Every Friday night during Artown (July 1 – July 31), Movies in the Park will present a movie at the Wingfield Park Amphitheater in downtown Reno. The seats are on the grass, so bring a chair and a low-backed blanket. Showtime is 9pm

Free Movies Tuesday Nights at the University of Nevada, Reno

This free movie series will be shown at Gateway Plaza in front of UNR’s Joe Crowley Student Union, starting at 9 pm Bring a blanket and low-backed chair. There will be free popcorn and drinks. In case of bad weather, the films will be shown in the theater on the third floor. Be sure to note that many of these movies are not suitable for young children. Free Movies at Washoe County Library Branches

There are free family movies every month at various branches of the Washoe County Library. In addition to movies, there are many other free monthly activities at various branches of the library; be sure to check back at the beginning of the month to see what’s playing and at which branch.

Children under the age of 9 must be accompanied by an adult.

  • Downtown Reno Library Sundays, July 6 and 20, August 3 and 17, September 7 and 21, 2 pm – Come to the Downtown Reno Library on select Sundays for the free Sunday Movie Matinee. Watch a variety of popular movies in the library auditorium. Call (775) 327-8301 to inquire about movie titles and for more information.

Free Family Game at Washoe County Library

Reno Little Theater presents Sleeping Beauty at various branches of the Washoe County Library. It is a live play, not a movie. This version is a fractured fairy tale and theatrical entertainment for the whole family.

Free Family Movie Nights at Comstock Park

Hope Community is sponsoring two fun family movie nights on Fridays at Comstock South Reno Park (corner of Double Diamond and Carat). Both movies will start at 8pm and all the fun, food, and movies are totally free.

Free Summer Movies at Squaw Valley

These family movies will be shown in the Event Plaza in the Village at Squaw Valley on Thursday nights, beginning at 8:30 pm (weather permitting). Bring blankets and warm clothes. For more information, call (866) 818-6963.
