The spin-off of DS as a firm leads us to believe that it is a very recent manufacturer, just over five years old. Nothing is further from reality. In 1955 the first DS 19 was presented to the world, a vehicle with sensual lines and avant-garde technologies for the time. Its success was indisputable and even big businessmen opted to travel in its variant DS 19 Prestige, presented in 1959. What’s more, General De Gaulle chose the DS as the official state car of France , a specific version with a total length of 6, 53 meters. After 20 years of reign in the world of sophistication on wheels, the DS 23 was withdrawn from the market in 1975. A brief history but one that left its mark, so much so as to regain its essence to create the most equipped, luxurious and avant-garde models of the PSA group. A family, that of DS, that will be completed with new electrified models and that has three proposals: DS 3 Crossback, DS 7 Crossback and the recently presented DS 9.
The DS firm has established a fundamental test bed on the path to zero emissions propulsion: Formula E. Competition has always been an ideal resource for starting new companies and drawing conclusions that can be applied to production vehicles. The great electric circus has been gaining fans and the presence of brands is increasing. The DS Performance Techeetah team works closely with road vehicle developers, proposing solutions for efficiency and technology while making a name for themselves in the racing world .
Track work is the first step towards the electric transition of models like the DS 3 Crossaback and its E-Tense variant, a 100% electric urban model with 136 hp and a range of up to 320 kilometers. Its older brother, the DS 7 Crossback, opts for plug-in hybrid technology in its 300 hp E-Tense 4×4 variant. The latest to join the premium firm’s portfolio is the DS 9 , a model that was to be presented at the Geneva Motor Show. Discover everything DS has to offer in this gallery.
