Anyone who has played any of the latest titles in the ‘Metal Gear Solid’ franchise will know, aware of it or not, the friendly couple that are Ga-ko and Kerotan .
Hidden among the jungle undergrowth, decorating the office of an oil rig, Ga-ko and Kerotan ended up transforming what was at first a simple curiosity into the icon of an entire saga.
Western information regarding these characters is rather scarce . Who are they? What do they do in a game like ‘Metal Gear Solid’?

To better understand the origin of Ga-ko and Kerotan, we must first get to know Konami herself, owner of the rights to both animals as well as the ‘Metal Gear Solid’ franchise.
What many video game users do not know is that Konami does not live solely on ‘Castlevania’ and ‘Pro Evolution Soccer’.
It is a company that is dedicated to the creation and distribution of toys, collectible cards, anime, tokusatsu (Japanese television shows and movies that use particular special effects), coin machines and, finally, video games.
Konami is divided into six subsidiaries, among which is the most significant for the video game sector, Konami Corporation. It is the division that controls Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo, Konami Computer Entertainment Japan, Konami Computer Entertainment Studios, Konami Online, Konami Media Entertainment and Konami Traumer.
Precisely the latter, the Von Traumer division, are the creators of Ga-ko and Kerotan , two friends, one chicken and the other frog, who adorn the rooms and educational books of hundreds of Japanese children.
The reason for them to be in a saga full of violence and political conflicts is none other than the mere tribute that Hideo Kojima wanted to pay to two oriental icons such as Ga-ko and Kerotan .
They became an object to be taken into account to the point that in ‘Metal Gear Solid 3’ one of the camouflages was the Ga-Ko suit, an aid to complete the game one hundred percent since when wearing it, the call was heard of the Kerotan that we were to collect.

If you search online, you will realize how successful both characters are in Japan. Books, drawings and merchandising of two characters that Westerners will always remember for having appeared in ‘Metal Gear Solid’ .
