I remember it as if it were yesterday but it turns out that we have already been dealing with this issue for more than two years in the American courts. Back in 2008 we told you how two Hollywood screenwriters had decided to denounce Sony and David Jaffe, creator of ‘ God of War’ , considering that the entire story of the fierce Spartan was illegally copied from a script they had written.
It turns out that the scriptwriters sent the script to Sony to see if they could make a movie and that the multinational never answered them. After a couple of years they were amazed to see that ‘God of War’ shared many details with the script that they had sent and that, mysteriously, it disappeared in the Olympus of the Gods. The complaint against David Jaffe and Sony America was filed, the judicial process was beginning and today we have learned the result.
According to the judge in the case, the honorable California federal judge, Marilyn Hall Patel, charged with analyzing the alleged similarities in the story, script, themes, dialogue, rhythm, characters and sequences of events, Sony and Jaffe are innocent.
“No one can possess the basic idea of a story. General plot ideas are not protected by copyright and copyright law; those ideas remain forever an artistic property common to all humanity . “
It seems that there is no case and that both Jonathan Bissoon-Dath and Jennifer Dath will have to return home empty-handed. For now, you have to believe the judge and exonerate Sony, but the question will always remain in the air.
Have they won because they really did not shoot anything from the original script or if they have won has it been thanks to the infinite army of specialized and aggressive lawyers that Sony has on its staff? Open the bets gentlemen.
