The Great Cajun Cook-Off is an amateur cooking competition in the gumbo and jambalaya categories. Local residents compete to win the title of Best Gumbo and / or Best Jambalaya. The evaluation is done both by popular vote (attendees test and vote) and by a panel of famous local judges.
The first Great Cajun Cook-Off & Food Fest took place in 2006 and became an annual tradition after that inaugural event. It is a fundraiser for the Cajun Cactus Foundation charities. In 2012, the charities benefiting are The St.
Bernard Project, Habitat for Humanity Central AZ, New Life Center and Waste Not.
