The more hours a person works, the less time they dedicate to rest , according to a study from the University of Pennsylvania published in the journal Sleep. According to the results, people who sleep 4 hours less than the average work 93 minutes more on weekdays and about 2 hours more on weekends. Taking into account that rest determines morbidity (the number of sick people) and mortality, overwork is an important risk factor for health.
On the other hand, the study, led by Mathias Basner, revealed that the time we spend moving from one place to another (from home to work, to the shopping center, to school, to social events, etc.) is the second factor that most conditions the hours of sleep.
Finally, the researchers came to the conclusion that people who sleep little spend less time watching television during the weekend than the rest of the population, and more time in social relations and leisure activities.
