Rabbits are very funny, playful and curious animals. Therefore, it is essential that you spend time with your little rodent and that you stimulate him daily with exercise and games. If you are thinking about how to entertain him, a good option is the cardboard mazes. In addition to entertaining him, you will be improving his cognitive skills, which will also help him have a longer and healthier life. All are advantages!
Create the base
Lay out a flat piece of cardboard to use as a base. If you can, choose a long piece to make a maze big enough. As your rabbit refines his skills, you can build larger mazes for him.
You can also create the maze directly on the ground, although you may need to clean up more as your rabbit may relieve himself. A cardboard base will help you keep clutter.
Make the walls
To create the walls of your maze, you can use strips of flat cardboard about four inches high. Glue the strips around the base to create the structure of the circuit. Remember that each lane has to be wide enough for the rabbit to move easily, so you should assess the size of your rodent.
Also, if you don’t want to use glue, you can use masking or packing tape as an alternative to hold the walls.
Design the maze
Once you have the structure, you will have to draw the different paths of the maze. You could start with a simple design where there is only one dead end or divergent path, and complicate the maze over time. Your rodent will surely like the challenge and that you play with it!
On the other hand, to make the internal walls of the labyrinth you will have to cut cardboard strips and glue them in the design you created. Make sure all the parts are attached so your rabbit can run through the maze without tipping them over.
Place your rabbit at the beginning of the maze and put some pieces of his favorite food at the end to encourage him to finish the journey. With patience and training, your rodent is sure to find its way through the maze.
