Rottweilers are very loyal, loving and obedient dogs. That loyalty, combined with their intelligence, makes them ideal pets for training. A well-trained dog is a polite and happy dog, as it knows its place within a human family. Therefore, investing a little time each day in training your puppy will make him adapt better to the family and will make him a balanced pet.
Use positive reinforcement
Puppies can be taught basic obedience rules starting at seven to eight weeks of age. Also, the key to training is to keep each session fun and short . If your Rottweiler is too young, a minute or two of training every day is more than enough, as he won’t be able to hold his attention for long.
You will also need to use positive reinforcement and reward your puppy when he follows an order. You can give him a treat, some wet food, or praise him affectionately. The reward will have to be given to him at the moment, so it is important that you have a bag of goodies on hand when you are training him.
When the puppy obeys your orders, you can gradually eliminate the treats and replace them with praise or petting.
Use short words
The commands you use should be short, one or two words at the most. In addition, your voice will have to be friendly, so it is important that you never yell at him or lose your patience. Remember that your puppy is obeying because he wants to please you at that moment.
Also, the best time for a training session is when your puppy is energetic and relaxed. Never train your pet if he is sleepy, nervous or unwell, as he will probably not pay attention to you.
Train the right time
If your puppy is over six months old, you can train him for ten to fifteen minutes . Try five reps of one command, then move on to another and do another five reps. When the time is up, reward your pet and congratulate him. You can do the training up to three times a day with different commands.
Also, at the beginning you will have to put more emphasis on each order. When you teach him to sit for the first time, for example, try to get him to sit for three seconds before rewarding him. As you learn, increase the time until you are able to stay for at least thirty seconds.
