Insomniac Games is one of the most talked about companies lately thanks to the development of the exceptional ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man’. The creators of ‘Ratchet & Clank’ are also responsible for giving life to another well-known franchise of the past generation such as ‘Resistance’ and of which we have not heard from for years .
Exactly three deliveries have been developed for PlayStation 3 and two more for the two Sony laptops, but what are the chances that the saga will come back to life at some point? This is the question that James Stevenson, community director at Insomniac Games, wanted to answer in an interview with the Finder portal.
I’ve learned over the years to never say never. I think there are a lot of people who have fond memories of ‘Resistance’ back in the PlayStation 3 era, but yeah, never say never. It’s just that we have no plans to develop another ‘Resistance’ in the future.
The fact that Insomniac Games is not going to develop a new ‘Resistance’ does not mean that another company can take charge of it, as Stevenson has wanted to emphasize when declaring that the rights to the franchise are held by Sony .
I’m not sure. Obviously there have been other companies that have made versions for laptops like PSP (‘Resistance: Retribution’ in 2009 by Bend Studio) and PS Vita (‘Resistance: Burning Skies’ in 2012 by nStigate Games). In reality, Sony is the owner of the mIP and the one that has the rights to this universe. So I guess if they were really interested in doing ‘Resistance 4’ and we couldn’t or didn’t want to do it, Sony could hire another developer. In that case it would be up to Sony, not us.
It was precisely the version for PS Vita that reached the stores last, although at the hands of Insomniac Games it was ‘Resistance 3’ in 2011, so seeing the number of years that has passed since then it does not seem that we are going to see Sony announcing a hypothetical ‘Resistance 4’ in the short term . Time will tell what happens.
