When I first published this article, there were few hotels that offered Wi-Fi of any kind in the rooms. Today, your hotel most likely has an available Internet connection that you can access from your room, or at least from public areas. Therefore, there are fewer internet options outside of hotels, unless you take the second option, the Venezia Unica Card, which is explained below.
Another way to get Internet services throughout Venice is through an add-on to the Venezia Unica card, which allows you to access the Venezia Unica Wi-Fi network. See also how to use all the services that the card offers.
Here are a couple of suggestions for internet cafes and internet points in Venice. Most are in convenient locations, not far from the train station.

A reader’s recommendation for an internet cafe in Venice
One of my challenges was finding a “good” internet cafe in Venice. The concept of bringing your own laptop and connecting was very strange to people there (whereas it was the norm in Florence… go figure). I found an internet cafe 50 feet from the main street in Venice, next to the train station, that was nice, clean, quiet, and allowed for laptop connections. They would also burn photos from flash cards to CDs and other services. I was quite happy with them, so I wanted to pass them on.
