Kentaro Miura, author of Berserk and great influence on video games, passes away and the Final Fantasy XIV community pays him a great tribute

A really sad day for fans not only of manga or anime, but for all those who appreciate good art. Kentaro Miura, one of the most influential mangaka of all time, has passed away at the age of 54.

His most important work has been Berserk , which was still in regular publication to this day. Its influence on multiple authors and currents has been evident and one of the clearest examples is the Dark Souls saga.

However, the first great tribute it receives in the world of video games comes from the MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV. The players of the Square Enix title have decided to reunite, specifically the Dark Knights from the first expansion.

Several servers have been protagonists, with dozens of players lining up with one of the typical postures of Guts, the protagonist of Berserk. Greatswords have shone in Ul’Dah , one of the most important places in Final Fantasy XIV . Many of the users have even placed small bonfires at their feet, as a sign of respect.

Servers such as Balmung, Primal, Faerie or Midgardsormr have joined this moment , as a way of thanking Miura for her enormous influence in the medium. We will likely see other communities from other games join in condolences.

Here’s a better quality recording showing the full line of Dark Knights on the Balmung server from Final Fantasy XIV paying tribute to Miura-san. The turnout is amazing. For those unfamiliar with FFXIV, the work of the Dark Knight and Guts share many similarities.

A DRK line is beginning to form in Ul’dah (Leviathan) in homage to Kentaro Miura, creator of Berserk.

The DRKs pay tribute to Kentaro Miura, creator of Berserk. Rest in peace.

Tribute to Miura, Balmung.

Rest in peace and thank you Kentaro Miura. The Dark Knights community on the FFXIV server pays tribute.
