Lawsuit against Alec Baldwin: Soldier's family demands $ 25 million

After the deadly shot on the Rust film set, Alec Baldwin is once again the focus of justice. He is said to have started a wave of bullying on Instagram.

Washington – No rest for actor Alec Baldwin: In the USA, the family of a fallen soldier raises serious allegations against the 63-year-old. The family is now seeking $25 million in damages from Baldwin for bullying on Instagram.

In August 2021, 13 US Army members were killed during the evacuation in Afghanistan. One of the soldiers killed was Rylee McCollum. Shortly after his death, actor Alec Baldwin sent the deceased’s sister, Roice McCollum, a check for $5,000. The check was to go to the widow, Jiennah McCollum, of the fallen 20-year-old. This is reported by the US news portal Newsweek, with reference to court documents. The soldier was killed in a suicide attack at Kabul airport.

Alec Baldwin: Escalation on Instagram – Post on Capitol protests sets them in motion

Alec Baldwin wrote “A tribute to a fallen soldier” on the check as a reason for payment. According to the Newsweek report, this is borne out by court documents in the United States.

On Instagram, however, the situation escalated afterwards. When the killed soldier’s sister wrote a post about the storming of the US Capitol in Washington. The Hollywood star labeled the sister a Capitol Riot insurgent, according to the post, which went live on Jan. 3, 2022. This is reported, among other things, by the daily newspaper Welt.

Protest at the Capitol: Alec Baldwin defames the dead sister as a rioter

According to the documents, Roice had been protesting peacefully at the Capitol and was not part of the storming of the Congress building in Washington. After Alec Baldwin commented below her post on Instagram, “Are you the same woman I sent the $ for your sister’s husband who was killed while fleeing Afghanistan?” he also confronted her in a private message, also on Instagram.

According to court records, he called Roice a rioter there. When she denied the allegations, he threatened to repost the image from the post and wished her “good luck,” Newsweek reported. The threatened Instagram post can also be found in the court documents. Alongside the picture of Roice at the Capitol protests, Baldwin reportedly wrote that she was an insurgent and a rioter. According to Newsweek, it also mentions that he sent her money. Roice McCollum had willingly cooperated with the FBI after the Capitol riots. It seems that no criminal acts have been proven to her.

Alec Baldwin on Instagram: Family sues movie star

Alec Baldwin has around 2.4 million followers on Instagram. As a supposed consequence of the film star’s post, the sister of the killed received a series of hate messages. Following the messages from suspected Baldwin fans, the family has now filed a lawsuit in US court alleging “invasion of privacy, defamation, negligence and willful infliction of mental distress.”

Wave of hate: Alec Baldwin calls her disgusting on Instagram

In a post on his Instagram channel, Alec called Baldwin one of the hate messages disgusting. He went on to write, “Hateful things are being written about them that are wrong.” According to the Newsweek report, a screenshot of this is also reflected in the court documents.

Baldwin is charged, among other things, with not doing anything to stop the wave of hate. In a press release, one of the McCollum family’s attorneys, Dennis Postiglione, wrote that Baldwin willingly sent the McCollums through Hell. He is one of the most famous people in the United States and did it at a time when the family was just beginning to process Rylee’s death.
