Making the Most of a Disney Vacation

I am a Disneyland fan and love visiting my kids, but even as a writer and frequent visitor with access to park news and updates, I don’t know everything there is to know about the Disneyland Resort – Walt Disney World, I know even less, like It was proved by my visit there last weekend. There is so much to do. If you just buy a few tickets, book a hotel, and fly to Orlando, Florida, you’ll probably have a good time, but you’ll probably realize there was a lot more to it than could have been a part.

Enter the travel agent. The travel agents who sell Disney know everything there is to know about parks. They know about princess tea at the Grand Floridian Hotel. They know when the Food & Wine festival is held at Epcot. They will tell you that if your kids are animal lovers, you shouldn’t miss Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

There is so much at WDW and at the Disneyland Parks that unless you are a local and visit frequently, planning a trip to one of the parks is a big undertaking, of course you want to do it right.

Travel agent Debby Summerlin recommends using an agent to save time. She points out that you can book air, hotel, park tickets and schedule activities, creating the perfect itinerary for you without having to do any heavy lifting.

Summerlin also points out that there are many different components to a Disney trip and that it doesn’t come cheap. She believes that it is best to leave all the planning to a professional. And using a travel agent no longer costs money – in fact, it might even save you money. Hotel, tickets and airfare can work out quite well even with a travel agent. But reserving activities in advance makes a lot of things cheaper.

Also, if you leave it to the experts, you won’t make it to the park and you will waste your time figuring out what you want to do. Travel agencies will do everything that can be booked in advance planned for you.

Here are three examples of experiences the travel agent can book for you:

Gastronomic experiences. Have you ever tried to enter the Blue Bayou? It has been one of the most popular restaurants at Disneyland for a long time. You can make reservations through Disney Dining ahead of time and simply show up at the appointed time, with no stress or time wasted begging the hostess for a table during your visit.

Bippity Boppity Boutique. You are walking through Disneyland and you see elegant princesses and handsome princes hanging out in the park. You may think they made that at home, but you would be surprised to find out that they visited the Bippity Boppity Boutique and had a head-to-toe makeover. The boutique is extremely popular, so reservations are almost a must, especially when the park is crowded.

Princess Tea, the great Floridian. The Garden View Tea Room at the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa offers an over the top princess tea, the Disney Perfectly Princess Tea, featuring music, dancing, storytelling and more in this unforgettable and courteous tea. There is even a visit from Princess Aurora. Attendees receive royal gifts, including an 18-inch My Disney Girl doll dressed as Aurora, a princess tiara, a silver princess bracelet, a princess necklace, a fresh rose, a special princess scrapbook page, “Best Friend” certificate for your new doll.

The princes receive a sword, a shield, a bear and a certificate. Tea only takes place on select mornings, and reservations can be made 180 days in advance.
