“Men of the Year”: “GQ” honors Marteria, Lanz and Haaland

Smaller frame than usual and some honors only by video: At the “GQ” gala in honor of the “Men of the Year”, people from the TV, sports, music, podcast and fashion world were honored.

Berlin – Rapper Marteria (38), talk show host Markus Lanz (52) and BVB star striker Erling Haaland (21) are among the men of the year for “GQ” magazine.

They were honored on Thursday evening during a gala dinner at the “Men of the Year” awards in Berlin – as was the 32-year-old comedian and podcaster Felix Lobrecht (“Mixed Hack”), the French Netflix series star Omar Sy (43, “Lupine”) and the internationally successful German actor Tom Wlaschiha (48).

Berlin’s governing mayor, Michael Müller, brought his daughter Nina to the red carpet and the menu, and the “Tatort” actor Vladimir Burlakov from the Saar Sunday crime thriller appeared with his partner for the first time.

The ZDF talker Lanz, the Dortmund footballer Haaland, film star Sy (“Pretty Best Friends”) and Wlaschiha (“Game of Thrones”) had not come and thanked them for the award via video.

Katrin Bauerfeind led the evening in an indoor restaurant in Berlin-Mitte in front of about 150 guests according to 2G rules – only vaccinated and convalescent.

Not only men were praised: The singer Zoe Wees (19) received a newcomer award and model Karolina Kurkova, who appeared in bright red, an award as an icon.

The Italian entrepreneur Chiara Ferragni, who is one of the most successful influencers in the world with more than 25 million Instagram subscribers, was named “Woman of the Year”. Her gold-colored corset top was a real eye-catcher.

Lifestyle magazine “GQ” awards the “Men of the Year” awards in several countries, including the USA, Great Britain, India and China. The German edition of the style magazine has been around for 24 years. In 2021, the frequency of the previous monthly magazine was reduced to four times a year. In doing so, the magazine lives up to its original name “Gentlemen’s Quarterly”. dpa
