The National Capital Trolley Museum preserves the history of Washington DC’s electric railroads with a collection of cars dating from 1898 to 1945. Many of the cars were originally used in Washington DC, but there are also cars from New York, Canada, Germany, and the Netherlands. See a model design depicting a 1930s Washington cityscape and displays of street rail artifacts and photographs. The highlight of your visit is that you can take a real trolley ride on the one-mile demonstration railway.
The museum was relocated due to the construction of the InterCounty connector to a new, larger facility adjacent to its original location in Northwest Branch Park. The new building includes a tram exhibition barn, a tram maintenance building and a visitor center. The National Capital Trolley Museum offers school group tours and is available for birthday parties. During the Christmas season, the museum hosts a Holly TrollyFest and you can ride the trolley with Santa.
