Number of people injured after bus accident

They were on their way to a skiing holiday: Dozens of people from North Rhine-Westphalia were injured in a bus accident in Upper Bavaria. Investigations are now underway into how the accident could have happened.

Inzell – After the serious accident of a coach in Upper Bavaria with more than 50 injuries, the investigations of the public prosecutor are ongoing.

The bus from North Rhine-Westphalia was recovered from the accident site near Inzell in the Traunstein district and transported away, said a police spokesman on Sunday morning. The vehicle was seized for further investigation.

According to the police, the bus from Münster had been occupied by a total of 61 people – including children, adolescents and young adults. They were on their way to a skiing holiday in Kaprun, Austria. The police corrected the original first information about a target in the Chiemgau Alps. According to the police, the vehicle left the federal road 306 at around 7.30 a.m. on Saturday morning at the end of Inzell and overturned.

According to further reports from hospitals on Sunday morning, the police counted a total of 52 injuries. 14 seriously injured were among the victims. One of them is in intensive care treatment. 9 people were uninjured.

The information from the various emergency services about the victims had fluctuated several times. The fire brigade had initially counted eleven seriously injured, the police seven. No one was killed.

The 58-year-old bus driver was slightly injured, said the police spokesman. The bus company based in North Rhine-Westphalia organized the way home for some travelers and for others the onward journey to the ski area to which they were traveling.

The federal road near the border with Austria was closed for many hours on Saturday at the scene of the accident. Several of those affected were taken to hospitals in the area by helicopter.

Based on the traces on site and initial interviews, the police have so far assumed that the bus left the road without any third party involvement and toppled down an embankment several meters high to the right. There he lay on his side. dpa
