As is to be expected and expected, women in London come in all shapes and sizes and the city is home to shops catering to women of all dress sizes. First, here are some useful international clothing size conversion charts to introduce you to UK equivalent sizes. Most of the plus size women’s clothing stores in London are located on or around Oxford Street, so you won’t have to run across town to locate these stores.
Evans
Evans has over 180 stores selling plus size fashions so you know how to get the right shape to flatter curvy women. They stock items up to size 32 and have everything from nightwear to special occasion wear. Evans has been the UK’s leading women’s plus size fashions since its opening in 1971 and had its first show at London Fashion Week in 2014. You can check the online store locator for other outlets, but if you’re shopping on Oxford Street, Evans has a branch near Marble Arch.
Primark
There are two large branches of Primark at each end of Oxford Street: one near Marble Arch and one near Tottenham Court Road. The store caters to people of all sizes and offers clothing for women, children and men, as well as a range of household items and toys. The basics (T-shirts, leggings, etc.) and affordable dresses, coats, shoes, and accessories are worth checking out.
next
Also near Marble Arch is the Next chain of stores and they sell clothes up to size 26. The quality is better than Primark.
New style
There are a couple of branches of the New Look chain of stores on Oxford Street. The main store is close to Oxford Circus. The clothes are affordable and the range changes regularly, so there is usually something on trend.
Marks y Spencer
Continuing down Oxford Street, there is a large branch of M&S between Oxford Circus and Tottenham Court Road. The M&S Plus range reaches size 28 and features some good everyday garments that are generally better quality fabrics than other chain stores.
Largo tall sally
If you’re tall too, head to Orchard Street to find Long Tall Sally on Chiltern Street, which specializes in flattering clothing for women 5’8 “(173cm) and over. The clothes are up to size 24 and they also stock larger shoes.
Beige More
Beige Plus is also in Marylebone. Don’t be put off by the store’s unattractive name as they have a good range of clothing and stock up to size 28.
H&M
There are a few branches of this high street fashion chain along Oxford Street, and throughout the UK and beyond. There was a time when H&M upset fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld when they insisted on wearing the range he collaborated on in a size 16. But now H&M has more sizes than usual.
Forever 21
There is a Forever 21 branch next to H&M. The Forever 21+ range goes up to size 24 so you can shop for the latest fashions at an affordable price.
Marina Rinaldi
Italian brand Marina Rinaldi is the place to go for plus size designer styles. It can be a bit intimidating to visit here as there is a security guard at the gate, but if you want the best then it is worth going inside. They adapt to different age groups, so don’t think that this is something you have to wait until you are older to enjoy yourself.
Debenhams
Continuing down Oxford Street, you come to some of the best department stores. Debenhams stocks womenswear up to size 32.
Fraser’s house
The next department store along this stretch of Oxford Street is House of Fraser, which owns a Marina Rinaldi range (if the security guard at the Mayfair store is concerned). The clothes here tend to be a bit more mature, but you can find several good quality classic styles.
John Lewis
John Lewis, the nation’s favorite department store, sells a range of clothing up to size 26 from many of the best brands. The East clothing range is especially recommended.
Very good
Across from Oxford Circus (at the junction with Regent Street), you’ll find Bravissimo, which specializes in lingerie, swimwear, and nightwear for fuller figures.
Base
If you want designer clothes, head to Covent Garden to Base, which has a range of stylish items from size 16 to 28. The clothes are beautiful and quite different from what you will find on the main street.
