Among the nations of Central and Eastern Europe, the Czech Republic stands out as arguably the most gay-friendly, especially its endearing, pedestrian-friendly and beautifully preserved capital city Prague. This largest city in the Czech Republic, just a 3.5-hour drive south of Berlin and the same distance north of Vienna, has a visible and well-connected gay scene and is the location where the Festival of the Prague Gay Pride, which takes place in mid-August. This year’s dates are the week of August 8-14, with the Prague Gay Pride Parade scheduled for August 13, 2016.

Prague Pride hasn’t been around for many years, but the organizers have quickly turned it into a full week of fun and event-filled festivity. The Prague Gay Pride Parade takes place on August 13 from noon to 3 pm, descending on Wenceslas Square. This is followed by a Pride Music Festival, which runs until 10pm and features several different bands and performers, and then some high-energy parties.
