Springfield’s most environmentally friendly clothing line, R [ECO] NSIDER, was born in 2018. This eco-friendly label arose out of the brand’s concern for the planet and the concern to be more responsible and considerate of the environment. Since then, Springfield has produced more than 8 million garments under the R [ECO] NSIDER seal, more than 15% of the total garments it has produced in this period.
R [ECO] NSIDER initiatives are based on three fundamental pillars: the use of natural or recycled fibers, saving water and saving energy . Regarding the use of natural or recycled fibers, organic cotton is the star initiative within R [ECO] NSIDER and represents 56% of the total garments produced under this label. Other initiatives are recycled polyester and cotton.
What novelties does R [ECO] NSIDER bring in the autumn-winter 2020 season? At the product level, Springfield is committed to saving water through its jeans made with the h20 program , as well as the #BosqueSpringfield project, aimed at reforestation and creating ecosystems.
Its h20 program is based on the use of laser and ozone technologies in the denim finishing processes, which saves large amounts of water and energy, while eliminating the use of toxic products such as bleaches or permanganates. The h20 program saves large amounts of energy and between 50-90% of water compared to traditional techniques. In addition, another novelty that has arrived this year 2020 has been the use of Lenzing Ecovero fibers, a viscose from renewable sources of wood.
#ForestSpringfield
This year, Springfield has created the #BosqueSpringfield initiative, an action aimed at reforesting and creating ecosystems in deforested areas to help improve air quality.
The area to be reforested is located in the municipality of Caleruega, in the province of Burgos, a completely deforested area of high ecological value. This project has been developed in two phases.
In the first, 5,000 trees were planted, and in the second, they intend to plant 25,000 under the claim “ One pair of jeans = One tree ”. And it is that Springfield strengthens its commitment to saving water through its h20 program for the production of its jeans, since this is a fundamental element in the reforestation and future life of forests.
For the creation of the forest, a new technological system of massive plantation will be used with which complete ecosystems are generated in the most agile, sustainable and efficient way possible to continue reversing the impact of CO2 emissions.
Specifically, the planting system will be carried out with drones, using advanced software and a navigation system that automatically determines where and how to launch the seeds.
